Case1: When I tried to open any file or folder on my USB stick, I got an error message: the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable. The data on the USB stick is very important. How can I access the data and get them off the USB stick?

Case2: There is no problem to insert my flash drive to my laptop and Windows can recognize the flash drive as a removable drive. However, I have no method to access any file on the flash drive since a pop-up message shows: the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable. What does it mean? How to solve this problem so that I can access the files on the flash drive?

Solution: Possible Methods to Fix the Error Message on USB Stick
Method1: run check disk
You can run the check disk by either way in the following:
First way: Click Start – >> Run ->> type chkdsk /f x: (replace x with the letter of your USB stick where shows the error message ->> click OK.

Second way: Right click on the USB stick and choose properties ->> choose Tools ->> choose Check Now under error-checking option ->> choose both available check-boxes on the pop-up windows ->> click Start.

Method2: have a try with USB stick recovery software
If the method above is not available, there may be something wrong with the USB stick such as USB stick may be damaged. Therefore, you need to use USB stick recovery software to get data off the USB stick. The recovery software can only help you restore data from the USB, but it can’t fix the error message on your drive. Do you know how to perform USB data recovery to get back lost data step by step?
